We are in a generation where the world has almost seen the unseen, inventing many things someone didn’t even imagine. We are at the peak of technology and modernization, where

everything is possible. Because science made us believe this. The world transforms into a global village. We connect through the internet. Moreover, people just got more and more engaged after the pandemic. But nowadays, artificial intelligence, a most heard name, has woven itself into our daily lives in ways we may not even be aware of. It has become so pervasive that many remain unaware of its impact and our reliance on it. From morning to night, going about our everyday routines, AI technology drives much of our work.

What is AI? Is it a person or a thing? Which raises the question, what exactly is it? Artificial Intelligence or AI is the ability of a machine to mimic humanlike behavior such as learning, processing, and adapting. An AI-powered machine processes the provided data to predict outputs for new values. Industry, government, and science use AI technology—some high-profile applications like advanced web search engines.

The various subfields of AI research center around particular goals and using specific tools. The traditional purposes of AI research include reasoning, knowledge representation, planning, learning, natural language processing, perception, and support for robotics instead of human or animal intelligence. It is also the field of computer science that develops and studies intelligent machines.

But the question is whether AI threatens humanity or is a blessing. Whether AI is a threat to society or a gift is complex. From the above, we can get the message that AI has many positive impacts on our regular lives, but the concern is that it is useless. In recent years, artificial intelligence has set itself into our daily lives in ways we may not even be aware of. When we wake, many of us reach for our mobile phones or laptops to start our day. Doing so has become automatic and integral to how we function in our decision-making, planning, and information-seeking, which is integrated into our personal and professional online lives today. AI systems can adapt their behavior to a certain degree by automatically processing their previous results and actions.

John McCarthy 1956 introduced the term Artificial Intelligence. But since then, AI has become a powerful tool and resource today due to the massive volumes of data, advanced computing technology, and algorithms to process such data.

Natural language processing implemented in voice assistant chatbots. Computer Vision has excellent potential and uses in facial recognition technology. AI is being utilized in the healthcare industry to identify tumors and other diseases while providing healthcare workers with a detailed analysis of the possible treatment. ChatGPT reflects the most recent advancement of AI. It is a chatbot based on a deep learning algorithm to process cumulated and unstructured data. Though AI has beneficial aspects, some horrific issues exist when using AI. Unemployment is a severe problem that has risen due to AI replacing jobs that humans currently do. Additionally, AI may be biased or make decisions not in humans’ best interests. An AI system may favor a specific gender or a race in a search result, for example, because of the data it may train on. Not only unemployment but also AI is a threat to privacy. Recently, it has been in the news that swiping on others’ faces any videos can even if the person is alive or not. Another fact is that AI is increasing crimes; it is said that AI will replace humans within a few years, which is threatening to our upcoming generation.

Eventually, AI comes with its advantages and disadvantages. It depends on how we are utilizing it. It is our responsibility to use it for learning and creating. And there is a saying by Stephen Hawking that “AI is likely to be either the best or worst thing to happen to humanity.”
