One of the ways to rejoice is to celebrate festivals. Celebrating festivals is a well-known way to bring joy to people’s lives. But, those festivals depend on the lifestyle and culture of that country.
These festivals have been popularising and enriching history and tradition for ages.
Bangladesh has a variety of festivals. Bangladesh is a country with six seasons. Therefore, some festivals revolve around seasons or months. Various other festivals are divided into several categories. Like- religious festivals, social & cultural festivals, some common festivals, etc.
Religious Festivals
1) Muslim Festivals: Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Shab-e-Barat, Shab-e-Qadr, Jamaat Ul Wida, Ashura, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, Chaand Raat, Muharram, etc.
2) Hindu Festivals: Durga Puja, Krishna Janmashtami, Kali Puja, Diwali, Holi, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati Puja, Ratha Yatra, Manasha puja, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maha Shivaratri, Bhai Phonta, Rakhsha Bandhan, Savitri Brata, Vijaya Dashami, etc.
3) Buddhist Festivals: Buddha Purnima or Buddha’s Birthday, Madhu Purnima, Magha Puja, Parinirvana Day or Nirvana Day, etc.
4) Christian Festivals: Christmas Day, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, Good Friday, etc.
Social & Cultural Festivals: Pohela Boisakh, Pohela Falgun, Boshonto Utshob, Poush Mela, Nabanna, Shakrain, Jatiyo Pitha Utshob, Ekushey Boi Mela, Dhaka International Trade Fair, Baul mela, Classical, folk Music festival, etc.
Common Festivals: International mother language day & Shaheed Dibosh, Independence & National Day, Victory Day, Maday, Birthday of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, etc.
Festivals flow from our ancient times. Various fairs & programs are organized for these festivals in Bangladesh. It is beneficial in many ways besides unity among people.
Such festivals are seen in cities as well as in villages.
Humans are social creatures, so festivals also play a role as a means of communicating with each other.
Festivals can give us a joyful atmosphere. Besides, it plays an important role in both the economic and cultural aspects of the country. So we have to celebrate all kinds of festivals and other social festivals decently, politely, and purely.
